Employee Spotlight - Stephen Gruoner, Human Resource Specialist / Senior Caregiver

Stephen Z. Gruoner (Grew-ner), We Are Family Home Care Human Resource Specialist and Senior Caregiver has been with We Are Family since 2016.  Stephen was We Are Family’s first male caregiver.  Monika Basile (We Are Family Home Care Coordinator – Manager) had been searching for a male caregiver for a long time.  When she saw that Stephen was a musician, Monika was curious, and a bit fascinated and wanted to know more.  Stephen has a very diversified background/work history, and very knowledgeable.  Stephen has been playing the violin since he was 7 years old; taught himself how to play the Viola at age 14; has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Business, and a Masters in Business.  Stephen is a private music teacher of Violin, Viola, Cello, Piano, etc. He was been in the LaPorte County Symphony Orchestra in LaPorte, IN since 1994, he was Personnel Manager from 1998 to 2003.  He was also Personnel Manager/Music Librarian for Whiting Park Festival Orchestra (Whiting, IN) for 10 years.  Stephen is on the State Board of Director’s for Indiana Federation of Music Clubs – Finance and Investments committee member; and IFMC State newsletter Editor.  He has been tuning Piano’s since 1994.  In December, 2009, Stephen went to China to play 8 concerts in 7 different cities (including Beijing) with South Shore Orchestra.  Stephen worked in elementary education as a Educational Paraprofessional in Illinois for 10 years, along with a NCLB tutor working with Gary, East Chicago, and Hammond school kids in their homes.  Stephen recently played the violin for one of We Are Family clients birthday party.  Stephen is very passionate, has a ton of patience, and cares a lot about We Are Family clients, and people in general.
